Wreckommendation: The Legend of Zelda OST

the legend of zelda

I’ve been playing a lot of the original Zelda with my 20 month old daughter, Emily, and it makes us both happy. I have a feeling she may be more into the music than actually playing. Either way, I enjoy my time with her and it makes me proud. The OST, even for being 8 bit, is truly amazing. It’s deep, it’s catchy and it’s magical! I highly wreckommend you play some Zelda this weekend and take some time off and relax. It doesn’t matter which Zelda either, every single one is awesome. Yes, even Zelda II….that one is one of my favorites. I’ve made a playlist of the tracks I’d like to share here. Enjoy and seriously take a day and do nothing but play some Zelda.

Also, all of this praise and no credit. Koji Kondo composed all of the Zelda music.

Thomas – my 4.5 year old son has been exposed to Wii Zelda, Skyward Sword. It was my Xmas gift but once he saw how cool it was, he had to play. And he figured out how to use both controllers, he whizzes around doing mostly everything, except I get to kill the big bosses. Even though it’s lots of killing, at least it’s not AK47s and other humans. The music is definitely an enhancement. Zelda Rules!

When I play with Emily, I always say “Go get those guys! Use the button!” Instead of “KILL THE OCTOROK WITH YOUR SWORD!!!!!”. I bought the original Zelda for Father’s Day this year when I got an online credit card thing so Emily and I play everyday. Even if it’s only for 15 minutes. Sometimes she’ll request just to have it on so she can hear the music. Zelda is amazing. I’ve loved that series since 1989 when I first played The Legend of Zelda. I love that music too. Very nostalgic and timeless.
