Review: Saor – Aura

saorSaor is an atmospheric Celtic black metal band from the mother land, Scotland. Of course it’s going to be as authentic and beautiful as you had hoped. However, some (actually, a lot of people) have never even heard of this band before and their latest release “Aura” just may end up being one of your favorite albums of 2014. How come? Well it’s atmospheric black metal, which is usually stunning by itself. However, this Celtic ideology blended in within the music makes this stand out from the rest. Exceptionally written music, quality production and moments within the massive musical journey that will remind you of your favorite bands. Saor’s latest album is simply this: wonderful.

A/V Update: Napalm Death, Becoming The Archetype & Dethklok

First up is a new music/tour video for Napalm Death’s “Everyday Pox”. Next is Becoming The Archetype’s Noire/Sin city styled video for their new song “The Time Bender”. BtA is probably my favorite metalcore band these days because all of their work is very creative and interesting. They always appeal to both ears and eyes when it comes to their work. Dethklok releases a video for “The Galaxy” and Nathan Explosion gets captured by an enemy ship, can the other guys save him? Find out here!

MUSIC VIDEO UPDATE: Emmure, Napalm Death, A Hero A Fake & In This Moment

We begin this music video block with Emmure’s “MDMA”, which actually is the best Emmure song I’ve heard. I think if the vocals were sang instead of screamed it would have sounded a little better but it still wasn’t all too bad.

Next up is grind legends Napalm Death with their song “The Wolf I Feed” which has a very old school Fear Factory sound to it. The video is rad. I dig it.

Should have posted this yesterday but A CONVERGE AND NAPALM DEATH SPLIT IS HAPPENING

Yes. This is true. Metalsucks’ very own Axl Rosenberg reports:

“According to the Deathwish Inc. official website, the legendary bands will contribute two tracks each to the release, which will come out as both a 7″ and a digital EP: Converge’s side will consist of “No Light Escapes,” the new song the band has been playing live as of late, and “a ‘We Are The World’ styled rendition of the influential Entombed classic ‘Wolverine Blues’” featuring guest appearances by Tomas Lindberg (Disfear, At The Gates, Lock Up), Aaron Turner (Isis, Old Man Gloom, Split Cranium), Kevin Baker (All Pigs Must Die, The Hope Conspiracy), Brian Izzi (Trap Them), “and more.” Meanwhile, Napalm Death’s side will “offer up two new aural monsters,” entitled ”Will By Mouth” and ”No Impediment To Triumph (Bhopal).””

Well needless to say this is exciting as all hell. I cannot wait to hear these two grind titans together on one split.

Album Review! Cripple Bastards – Senza Impronte

Cripple Bastards bring the grind and they fucking bring it hard. Senza Impronte is a bad ass grindcore album with non-stop drumming, riffs and screaming; the screams frequently change up from a mid-range Barney Greenway (Napalm Death) scream, to a low low grunting growl that is similar to Ross Gnarly (Ritalin Attack/Human Transmutation) and even a higher registered screech that resembles something you’d expect from a Haemorrhage or Deathamphetamine album (which is the annoying style). The tempo is fast and heavy, like a bull rushing you at full speed. So you better expect an immense impact or get the fuck out of the way because Cripple Bastards gives zero fucks if you’re in the way. While the music is exceptionally good, the real thing that shines on this record are in fact the vocals.

There are tons of grindcore bands out there and the thing that usually wins me over is the vocal approach. Generally with grind, the music is always fast, furious, pissed the fuck off and awesome. However, you throw in some shitty vocals and it ruins the entire thing, no matter how good the music is. In this particular case, with Cripple Bastards, it’s fucking awesome. There is kind of a Gollum vocal approach here n there but it works out well. There are 5 songs on this album and one of the songs sounds like it splits into 9 totally different songs. Which would make sense considering the track has 2 names, so maybe one of the titles mean “Shit loads of grind on one track”. Anyways, the music is thrilling and Senza Impronte is a complete rager of an album. It packs the punch that you would want when you listen to grindcore.

So be sure to check this album out, it’s a solid release. Cripple Bastards continue to kick ass even after 24 years.

Pros: Furious Grind, Vocals are awesome, You’ll replay this all day if you’re not careful

Cons: n/a
