Music Update: THRESHOLD, AGNOSTIC FRONT, TESTAMENT, BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME, AUROCH, SCYTHIA & HAWK EYES

This morning on our Music Update: We start off with Threshold, a blend of power metal and progressive metal and that combination is something rare when it comes to music I discover. Threshold has released a lyric video for their song “Ashes” and it’s a fun track to listen to. Very futuristic and very rock n roll, I appreciate the clean singing vocals as it gives me a little relief from the constant growling and grunting you hear in metal these days. I love the screaming vocals but it’s always nice to change it up a bit. Musically the riffing and composition seems simple, with minor time changes and a sweet solo, “Ashes” was a pretty good song.

Next up is hardcore headbangers Agnostic Front with their music video for “Us Against The World” and damn it never fails to hear the same sound everytime I listen to hardcore. They all share the same characteristics and format it seems like. Doesn’t the vocals sound a little like Fred Durst? Not into this, at all.

Testament follows up with a lyric video for the song “Native Blood“. It’s a decent thrash/metal track. It sure has my foot tapping along. Nothing incredibly special but something I wasn’t cringing over either.

Up next is a blazing new track from Between The Buried And Me entitled “Telos“. It’s a big death metal, progressive mash up track and I am digging the hell out of this!!! I don’t know if it’s because I’ve gradually been a bigger and bigger fan of progressive music over the past 2 years or what but BTBAM’s new song is hitting the spot right now, and it feels good.

If you’re more in the mood for some fast and brutal death metal, then Auroch has exactly what you need. This band hailing from Vancouver just blew me away as this was my first time hearing them. They have this old school sound but maintain the power of modern death metal. This shit is awesome! I’m loving every second, every note, every scream I’m hearing. Fuck yeah!

Draw your swords and get ready to engage on a quest with Scythia as they reveal their music video for their song “Spirit of the Quest“. It’s got a nice groove and the music is nice and folk metal but not overly annoying at all. I’m digging this, makes me want to quit my job and go home and play Dragon Age II, Fable III and Skyrim. With a low budget (I’m guessing) they managed to pull off an entertaining video without being cheesy.

Closing up this epic endeavor is a band known as Hawk Eyes showing off their newest music video for the song “Headstrung“. Musically and artistically, I get a Mastodon-ish vibe from these guys. The music is very very good and I love the video. These guys are damn good and a strong finish to this mornings music update. Take care and have a great Wednesday!
