This year marks 15 years of Obscene Extreme and to celebrate the occasion the organisers decided to go all out and in extreme style by hosting an additional 3 festivals in 3 additional continents. Over the last few months Obscene Extreme has appeared in Mexico City – Mexico, Jakarta – Indonesia & Melbourne – Australia. A daunting feat to say the least but the organisers pulled it off and came back in one piece. There has been much success but also some failures and after some time at home to reflect on the adventure the man behind the whole idea, Curby, has spoken about the experience on the run up to the final Obscene Extreme Festival in Czech Republic this July.

This is curby/obscene… I believe that you our loyal OEF fans have followed us on our tour so you probably know what happened but for those who haven’t I would like to sum up our first ever OEF World tour. When I was pondering over our plans for the World tour I was really full of enthusiasm (and actually I still am). I hoped for something new but our first world volume was a really tough game, not only financially but also emotionally. It’s very difficult to understand how big differences are between Europe, Mexico and Indonesia… I knew it would be different, but so much? What can you do if you pay everything in advance as in Mexico and people don’t work at all? Not much… when you read my statements for every continent, you`ll understand me…

I really don`t want to cry, I just want to share this experience with all of you, and to be honest I’m very proud about our first OEF World tour. Everywhere the sound, the stages, etc. were good, the running order was kept properly and to be honest that was almost a miracle in those manana countries [laughs]!

If you ask me now to do it again knowing the results of those festivals, I would always say YES!!! I can’t help myself! The whole world tour was a 100% life experience. Now I know I can’t change things in countries like Mexico or Indonesia… mission impossible!!!

The absolute best experience was watching all the bands playing OEF. There were so many great bands all around the globe with a huge DIY attitude and the respect for the scene and OEF! I had so much fun watching all the bands from different countries. It was the first time for me to see bands from Vietnam, Phillipines, Costa Rica, New Caledonia, Korea… and all the bands that played those OEF’s had exactly the same attitude like we have in Europe. You could feel so much passion for extreme music! This made me really happy and really helped me deal with all the money we lost. The South and North American bands could meet at a single point in Mexico and it was great! The same in Asia with the Asian bands! In Australia we didn’t have that many foreign bands but all in all it was the best Aussie grindcore meeting anyway!

I want to thank all the bands one ore time that played at OEF this year, all the real supporters and everyone involved in helping OEF!!! THANK YOU!!!

Right now we are heading towards the 15th anniversary show in our hometown Trutnov and our lovely festival area Battlefield. I can recollect the small underground festival that was born in 1999 on a truck trailer instead of on a real stage. It has slowly changed into one of the leading underground festivals but with the same ideals and vibe like in the year it was born and it’s something I’m very proud of. I hope we’ll always continue to support the music we die for!!!

TÝR, hailing all the way from the Faroe Islands, are currently recording their new album with producer Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Aborted, Mercenary) at his studios in Denmark. For drum tracking on this album, TÝR has enlisted the services of George Kollias, one of metal’s most accomplished drummers, primarily known for his work in Nile, as well as Nightfall. A video featuring drum tracking highlights, as well as a short message from Kollias, is streaming now on Youtube and you can view it below!

George Kollias comments on the experience: “Hey Týr fans, this is George Kollias and I hope you are ALL ready for a crushing new album from Týr!!! I had the pleasure to record the drums on the new album, we had an absolutely great time in the studio and I gotta tell you, the material is super strong and catchy, I’m 100% sure you will all love this new album!! Big thanks to Heri, Terji and Gunnar for the opportunity and to Jacob Hansen for his incredible work with the recordings!”

A recent announcement on the TÝR facebook page has confirmed that the band has parted ways with drummer Kári Streymoy. The band commented on the amicable split:“We regret to inform you that Kári Streymoy and the rest of the band have parted ways. Kári suffered a back injury in 2008, and since then he has had some issues with his drumming. That is the main reason that the co-operation has been problematic for some time now, and we finally decided to part ways. We want to thank Kári for his time in the band. It’s been great to have you with us, we wish you the best of luck in the future and we hope you recover fully some day.”

This album will be the band’s seventh full length effort. One of the new tracks, “The Lay of Our Love”, will feature a duet with TÝR vocalist Heri Joensen and Liv Kristine from Leaves Eyes. In an update on facebook.com/leaveseyesofficial, Kristine announced:

“Dear Viking-Metal Fans & Friends,
I am very happy to announce that I will be joining Týr for the duet THE LAY OF OUR LOVE on their up-coming album (title still to be revealed), which is set to be released this Fall. Heri already joined Leaves’ Eyes at our headliner show in Wacken Open Air 2012. This was an absolute highlight during our live performance, moreover, I really like his voice and I am grateful for the invitation. A superb track, with inspiring melodies and lyrics, proving the authenticity of Týr.

I didn’t even know they were making a new GT let alone have it released later this year. This seems odd considering there is supposed to be a new console released very soon. However, you can pre-order Gran Turismo 6 right now on Amazon so it must be legit. I’m stuck with a Xbox only so I’ve been playing Forza for the past several years. I’d love to get back into Gran Turismo though.

Children of Bodom and Grupa 13 (The guys who film all of those awesome Behemoth videos)  release a new video for “Transference”, a new track off of CoB’s new album “Halo of Blood”. This is the first time hearing this track and I’m actually looking forward to hearing the new album from these guys. Less cheese and more metal!

Pathology have revealed that “Lords Of Rephaim” will be released Sep, 3rd 2013 on Sevared Records. The cover art is done once again by Par Olofsson. Also, both original vocalist Matti Way and original guitarist Tim Tiszczenko have returned to the band. This will be their 6th consecutive year releasing new music. What do you think about Pathology releasing a new album every year?

Guitar World….always coming out with these silly posts, recently put together a Top 10 list of the best 7-string songs of all time list. While I do agree some of the songs on that list are worthy, I get the feeling they truly didn’t listen to the “best” song from that particular band. Korn’s “Blind” might have been ground breaking as it tore through the grunge standard and began something new (or “nu”). Is it the best song by them? No. I felt the same way about some of the other bands. However, I’m glad Nevermore’s “Born” made the list. I love that song.
