Century Media Records Is Signing EVERY BAND THIS WEEK; Destiny Potato, Twilight, Bleed From Within & Gorement

I’ve been getting a ton of “So and so band is now signed to CENTURY MEDIA” lately and it poses a few questions. Are these bands truly good? Does Century Media give everyone a chance? Should I send my demo to them now? With so many bands being pumped out of Century Media this past week, it makes me wonder about the integrity of the company. Do they prefer quantity over quality? Let’s find out.

I’m listening to these bands for the first time as I write this. First band I’m listening to is Destiny Potato and their song “Dark Side Of You”. It has heavy down tuned guitar chugging that is in sort of the djent mind set. A female singer that is actually pretty good. There is some slight electronic presence in the background or it could be a faded guitar lead being used, just to set the atmosphere. The lady singer person can belt out a mean scream, assuming that is her anyways. There is some quick noodling going on that reminds me of Josh Travis’ work in Danza. I’m not going to lie, the ultra heavy sound coming out of the speaker goes quite well with a good voice going over it. Not only is it just mindless chugging, there is some neat rhythmic patterns going on. I’m not going to lie, this song was really good and now I want to hear more.

Next up is a black metal act known as Twilight, and good luck typing that into ANYTHING without bringing up a bunch of sites or clips from the stupid as fuck movie series. I’ve heard of these guys a couple of times before so I have heard what these guys are all about before hand. Honestly, they deserve to get signed and to release more music. Most, if not all, of the musicians are in other bands though so it was probably easy to get signed. They more than likely just wrote a note on a bar napkin and sent it to Century Media saying “Sign us or die, you pig fucker.” Just listen, it’s good black metal.

Next up is Bleed From Within from Glasgow, Scotland. Their approach to metal-core is about the usual you’d hear from someone from that genre. They look like they would be a blast live though after a few beers and fully engaged into the show. However, just sitting here trying to get into it sitting at my desk…..I’m just not feeling it. Sorry lads, maybe next time.

As for Gorement, they have been around for awhile and this deal is just so the band can re-release their work through Century Media. Not a bad choice because Gorement sounds pretty fucking good. I’ve never heard of these guys before and this may just finally give them the exposure they need. Very heavy old school death metal, you gotta love it!!!

Now when it seems Century Media is definitely going for quality with the recent signings. I don’t care for Bleed From Within but I can see how Century could profit off of them. I mean they are good musicians and looks like they have what it takes to go out on tour and play along with some bigger acts. I just personally cannot get into them. Are all of these investments worth it? Yes. I find quality in each band, some more than others. The more curious one is Destiny Potato, which I thought was going to be another These Hearts or Design the Skyline type of band. However, they impressed me the most and I can see them travelling with bands like Animals As Leaders AND Iwrestledabearonce. In conclusion, yes…Century Media knows what they are doing and will continue to deliver great music to the people. Good job Century, you win this round.
