A Skyrim themed death metal EP? YOU GOT MY ATTENTION!!! Let’s listen…………

Holy shit this is actually GOOD!!!! This is GREAT!!!! The Blood and Ebony EP is filled with great hooks, riffs and is overall a fantastic album. The composition and riff transitions are excellent. Staying interesting and fun throughout the entire EP. There are minor mistakes here n there but it keeps it real. It makes it unique, especially on the track “Skewered by Arrows, Pinned to Oak” at the 2:43 mark when you here the vocalist clear his throat before executing the final verse. I don’t know what it is about that but I love the fuck out of it. “Skewered” is a fantastic song and it sets the tone perfectly for the rest of the album. It’s just hostility, brutality and filled with great Orc slaying death metal riffs.

“Dragons Over Dawnstar” is another favorite of mine on this EP, the riffs, layout and style just rule. It’s masterful death metal and writing. Very impressive for one single guy who doesn’t seem to have any other musical projects in the works. The ending of this track is so good, that hammer on – pull off riff is truly magnificent. “The Eyes of the Falmer” is another unique stroll down riff lane. The drums sound so good, it’s hard to tell if they are programmed or not. They are dialed in so well. The next song is one I break my neck to each and every time, it’s an instrumental piece called “Built By Dwemer” and it’s fucking HEAVY!!!! It’s a simple piece yet it’s constructed so well that it’s my favorite track on the EP. It’s short so I listen to it 2-3 times in a row before continuing on. The way it marches on though is so fucking good.

“Slain by the Skilled Hand of Lydia” is more of an upbeat song with the riffing going on and the vocals remind me of “The Black Dahlia Murder”. The treble is pretty high on this track, for sure. This track has a neat flow to it, the way the riffs begin and end is pretty seamless. I love how the tempo slows down at the 2:10 mark though, making the track much more dark. “Khajiit Corpses Strewn in Snow” is a pretty gnarly technical death metal track, bringing out the Necrophagist and Obscura influence out. The track is technical and has this timing about it that’s not quite progressive and definitely not djent. The stop and go lead guitars over the rhythm is awesome. Lyrically, the entire album is just captivating. Using things from the world of Tamriel and telling stories from that universe just sits so well with me. I couldn’t ask for a better album based off of this theme.

This EP is just fun to listen to. Each song is truly different yet so heavy. I just finished playing the game a month ago and this album makes me want to play it again so bad. Bravo to “Euryale” for creating such a masterpiece. Check it out for yourself and listen to the wonder that is Tamriel – Blood and Ebony.

Pros: Music is rad, vocals are impressive, Skyrim theme makes the songs even more epic. If you like TBDM and Necrophagist, you’ll love this.

Cons: Just a few minor hiccups, hardly noticeable
