Album Review! MURDER CONSTRUCT – “Results”

Murder Construct: the only band I would say is an actual supergroup. Vocalist Travis Ryan (Cattle Decapitation), Guitarists Leon del Muerte (Exhumed) and Kevin Fetus (Watch Me Burn, Fetus Eaters), Bassist Caleb Schneider (Bad Acid Trip) and drummer extraordinaire Danny Walker (Intronaut, Exhumed) come together to bring you some great death grind action. Growls, grunts, riffs, blast beats and an adrenaline rush that would kill anyone with a weak heart, Murder Construct come back to kick your asses with their new album, “Results“.  The entire album is like firing a semi-automatic weapon into traffic. Just a constant force of music pummeling your ear drums, so damn loud…so damn fast…so damn heavy….so damn good. Murder Construct’sResults” is exactly what you want from a modern grind band, it’s packed with hooks, riffs, blasts and lung collapsing screams and they make it seem easy. The album is consistent, the songs run together really well but don’t sound repetitive at all. “Results” is a rather short album and the music is so good that it goes by almost too fast. This album just bleeds metal and is damn near flawless.

This marks Travis Ryan second album release this year, having released Cattle Decapitation’sMonolith of Inhumanity” a couple of months back, you’ll notice that his direction on this record is not the same. The approach is more straight forward instead of using his melodic screeching he used on the Cattle Decap album. His low’s and magnificent high’s have returned, thankfully. I feel as if his style of vocals fit this type of music perfectly. His mid-range growls are dominate throughout the record though. I like how he keeps this and Cattle separate, vocal wise. It’s still Travis but it’s almost two different styles, which I appreciate.

I hope you like riffs. Not just any ol riff either, the riffs on “Results” are punishing. Catchy writing and assaulting that fretboard makes for one damn good headbanging time. The bass riffs keep up with the guitars as well, and it’s audible in the mix. I do enjoy it when they mix it properly with everything else. It’s very important to have that thunder under all of that lightening. Keeping them all in line though is the fierce drumming from Danny Walker, his blasts and rhythmic slaughter on that kit is so damn enjoyable to listen to on “Results“. I feel as if he steals the show sometimes because his performance is so breath taking. You would think I’d be use to heavy death metal drumming but Walker just has this touch that sounds so damn good.

Each song is good in it’s own way, each song is entirely different yet carries that same grind sound. Which is just a sign of damn good writing and composition. Each song has a riff or a lyric that makes that song special. I’d say the only fault this record has is on the last song “Resultados“, which has this repetitive sequence that just gets old really fast. It’s also the longest song on the album, making up about 20% of the record. I’m not saying it’s bad, it just got annoying just a tad. (Excuse my Dr. Suess)

Results” is phenomenal and will probably be the best grind album released this year. It has everything you want, everything you need…and with some of the best musicians in the business, you are getting the nothing but the best out of them. Murder Construct is the perfect definition of a “supergroup” coming together to make a damn fine record. Get it, strap on your headphones and press play…and enjoy.
